Adventure Cycling/Bikepacking Destinations Near La Crosse, WI

Upper Hixon Forest Park

 800 Milson Ct, La Crosse, WI 54601

Natural area known for its hiking, mountain bike trails, and look out views. This area makes for a great day trip.

 

Veterans Memorial Park

located on Hwy. 16, 9 miles East of La Crosse or 1 mile West of West Salem. Our camping season begins April 15th and continues through October 15th. At Veteran's Memorial, we pride ourselves on providing a well-groomed, clean and wholesome atmosphere for camping families. We are located on the La Crosse River and also provide access to the La Crosse River State Bike Trail. Reservations are not accepted at Veteran's Memorial Campground nor are they needed. We operate on a first come/first serve basis and our motto is to never turn anyone away. For further information, James and Darlene Guinn, the campground managers, are available during the camping season at 608-789-8599.

 

Goose Island Campground

W6488 County Road K, Stoddard, WI 54658

is located on Hwy. 35, 3 miles South of La Crosse. Located on the backwaters of the Mississippi, this large campground offers excellent fishing and beautiful sunsets. Our camping season begins April 15th and continues through October. Reservations are accepted at Goose Island beginning January 2nd of each year. Pettibone Park

700 North Pettbone Dr.,

Pettibone Park was opened in 1901 originally being in Minnesota but later became La Crosse property. This park is well known for the beach. Although, the beach makes it well known there are many other things there. There is shelters, volleyball, trails, a disc golf area, fishing, and plenty of open space. Located over the Blue bridge from La Crosse. Makes for a short training trip with plenty of activities.

 

Perrot State Park

Perrot State Park is a state park in Wisconsin's Driftless Area at the confluence of the Trempealeau and Mississippi rivers. The 1,270-acre park features views of steep limestone bluffs and the river valleys. Plenty of camping, but make a reservation. About 25 miles from La Crosse. Access to Perrot via the State Bicycle Trail makes for a scenic bike ride!

Wildcat Mountain State Park

E13660 State Highway 33, Ontario, WI 54651 Gorgeous spot on the Kickapoo River, approximately 45 miles from La Crosse. Several routes can be  used to bicycle to Ontario, WI. Once there,  canoes and kayaks can be rented to paddle on the Kickapoo River.

Wildcat Park & Marina, MN

Wildcat Park and Landing is located just south of Brownsville, Minnesota and is leased by Houston County from the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Wildcat Park features 62 campsites, 3 picnic shelters, 2 boat landings, and one fishing pier. Over two-thirds of the campsites include water and electricity. The Houston County Auditors  Office oversees Wildcat Park and can be reached at (507) 725-5803.

 

Cushon’s Peak Campground, Houston,MN

This campground hosts two Blue Grass Festivals each year in May and August. located in Southeast Minnesota’s Bluff Country:8 miles east of Rushford and 2.5 miles west of Houston on State Highway 16.

 

Beaver Creak State Park, Caledonia, MN

Beaver Creek Valley State Park is a state park of Minnesota, United States, featuring a steep, narrow valley carved by East Beaver Creek. This spring-fed stream is a fishing destination for its native brook trout, and introduced brown trout.

 

Sidie Hollow County Park, Vernon County, WI

Sidie Hollow is a beautiful park!  With 521 acres, 74 campsites, 2 picnic shelters, a 38 acre lake, two clear and cold water trout streams, fishing piers, a boat launch, nearly 10 miles of multi-use hiking and mountain bike trails and two playground areas, Sidie Hollow has proven to be a recreation destination for residents and visitors of Vernon County.
